Jayme M. Valdez, LMHC
Licensed to practice in Massachusetts, New York, and Florida.
I am the owner, founder, and clinical director of Clearview OCD Counseling, LLC — a private practice that specializes in the treatment of OCD, phobias, panic attacks, severe anxiety, and related disorders. As a licensed mental health counselor who served on the Boards of Directors for OCD Massachusetts and OCD Rhode Island, I work hard to advocate for my clients as well as for all persons living with OCD-related disorders — including those with active substance/alcohol abuse and other addictive disorders.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of helping diverse populations, including at-risk LGBTQ youth, rape/sexual assault/incest survivors, Veterans, domestic abuse survivors as well as perpetrators, persons diagnosed with complex-PTSD and dissociative disorders, incarcerated men and women, and persons suffering from psychosis. While the bulk of my practice now focuses on anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders, my prior clinical experiences have prepared me to handle a wide array of symptoms and challenges. My current clinical interests include Pedophile OCD (POCD), “treatment-resistant” OCD that has not responded to prior clinical interventions, and co-morbid cases where OCD presents with one or more other psychiatric diagnoses such as an addictive disorder or PTSD.
In my formative training, I earned my Masters degree in mental health counseling from Lesley University with a specialization in expressive arts therapies — this unique education now affords me great flexibility and creativity in my treatment planning with clients. The use of arts (music, visual art, sand tray, multi-media, writing, etc) has been pivotal throughout most of my work, including my graduate studies at the New York University School of Social Work and my undergraduate studies at Sarah Lawrence College. During internships at McLean Hospital — a Harvard-affiliated teaching hospital — and various inpatient, outpatient, and community-based settings, I honed my skills in bringing evidence-based therapeutic techniques to persons struggling with PTSD, OCD, and other anxiety and mood disorders while still maintaining a focus on creative, flexible approaches to recovery.
My training is a patchwork of client-centered, strengths-based, skills-oriented modalities that I shape to fit each client’s individual needs. I pride myself on providing highly-individualized care that targets specific symptoms while promoting a person’s overall worth and wellness.
